THE DMITRY SAVCHENKO CULTURAL HERITAGE ARCHIVE

LEGACY ACROSS CONTINENTS

An International Cultural Platform • A Long-Term Cultural Initiative

SWEDEN HERITAGE PROJECT • The Kingdom of Sweden Chapter

Sweden stands among the few nations whose cultural heritage and civilizational presence reached far beyond the borders of Scandinavia, leaving enduring traces across North America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. From the 17th-century colony of New Sweden on the Delaware River to the Caribbean island of Gustavia, from the trading routes of the Swedish East India Company to the cultural influence of Stockholm as one of Europe's most distinguished royal capitals, Sweden's legacy spans continents and centuries. Today, this heritage lives on in historic cities, royal institutions, museum collections, architectural landmarks, maritime traditions, and the living culture of the Swedish people. It connects generations across the Atlantic and beyond, forming part of the shared cultural memory of humanity. The Sweden Heritage Project is dedicated to this global cultural legacy. Its primary goal is to document, preserve, and present the enduring contribution of Swedish civilization to world history and culture, through fine art photography, historical research, archival materials, exhibitions, and international cooperation. THE DMITRY SAVCHENKO CULTURAL HERITAGE ARCHIVE is established as a long-term international cultural platform uniting art, research, and visual storytelling. Its mission is to preserve, document, and promote the world's distinguished cultural heritage, presenting it not as a relic of the past, but as a living foundation of modern global civilization. The Sweden Heritage Project marks a defining chapter of this international initiative, presenting Sweden as a civilization whose legacy continues to connect continents, peoples, and generations. The author and founder of the project is Dmitry Savchenko, an international fine art photographer and creator of cultural initiatives working at the intersection of photographic art, history, architecture, and world heritage. For many years, his works have been exhibited in international galleries and museums, published in global editions, and showcased across leading world art platforms. His work in Stockholm and Sweden spans more than six years of active creative and cultural engagement. We invite collaboration from museums, archives, libraries, universities, research centers, cultural foundations, diplomatic missions, tourism boards, corporate partners, galleries, media representatives, and all individuals and institutions dedicated to preserving world cultural heritage. GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS & CULTURAL SPONSORSHIP
Connecting Continents Through Swedish Cultural Heritage

The Sweden Heritage Project, developed within THE DMITRY SAVCHENKO CULTURAL HERITAGE ARCHIVE, represents far more than a Nordic collection. It is the beginning of a long-term international cultural initiative exploring the historic networks of cultural, artistic, maritime, and civilizational exchange that connected Sweden with Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. For centuries, Swedish history extended across continents, through colonies, royal institutions, trading companies, emigration waves, and diplomatic networks. Many of these connections remain visible today in historic cities, place names, architectural traces, museum collections, and living cultural traditions. The Archive seeks to document and present this interconnected heritage through fine art photography, historical research, archival materials, exhibitions, publications, documentary storytelling, and international cultural cooperation. To develop this long-term initiative, PromoGlobe Group LLC (USA) welcomes strategic partnerships, corporate sponsorships, institutional collaboration, and private patronage from organizations and individuals connected to the cultural heritage of Sweden and its historic global networks.

THE GLOBAL HERITAGE NETWORK

We invite museums, archives, universities, cultural foundations, diplomatic missions, tourism organizations, corporations, family offices, collectors, and private patrons from across these historic cultural regions to participate in the development of the Archive.

STOCKHOLM AND THE CITIES OF SWEDEN

The Sweden Heritage Project spans the full cultural and geographic breadth of the Kingdom of Sweden, from the capital Stockholm in the east to the ancient university city of Lund in the south, from Gothenburg on the Atlantic coast to the Arctic landscapes of Luleå and Skellefteå in the far north. Stockholm, the capital and cultural heart of Sweden. Royal palaces, Gamla Stan, Fotografiska, the Nobel Prize ceremony, the Vasa Museum, and the living traditions of the Swedish court. Gothenburg, Sweden's second city and historic maritime gateway. Founded in 1621, home to the Swedish East India Company, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, and the Liseberg cultural district. Malmö, the city of bridges. Connected to Copenhagen by the Öresund Bridge, a symbol of Scandinavian integration and contemporary Nordic culture. Uppsala, the intellectual capital of Sweden. Home to Uppsala University, one of the oldest universities in northern Europe, founded in 1477. Center of Swedish ecclesiastical and academic heritage. Lund, a city of medieval heritage and world-class research. Lund Cathedral, one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Scandinavia, and Lund University, a leading center of European academic life. Visby, the medieval city on the island of Gotland. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved medieval urban environments in northern Europe, with city walls, churches, and merchant houses dating from the Hanseatic period. Kalmar, city of the Kalmar Union. The historic fortress of Kalmar Castle, where the Kalmar Union was signed in 1397, uniting the crowns of Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Falun and the Dalarna region, the cultural heartland of Sweden. The Falun Copper Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the folk art traditions of Dalarna, considered the symbolic home of Swedish national identity. Östersund and the interior, the Sweden of lakes, forests, and indigenous Sámi heritage, connecting the country's cultural landscape with the ancient traditions of northern Europe. The Sweden Heritage Project is open to cultural partnerships, sponsorship, and collaboration across all regions of Sweden. Contact: promoglobeagency@gmail.com

                                                                               NORTH AMERICA • NEW SWEDEN

In 1638, Swedish colonists sailed up the Delaware River and established Fort Christina, the founding settlement of New Sweden, on the territory of present-day Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. This was the first enduring Swedish presence on the American continent, predating by decades the cultural waves of Swedish emigration that would follow in the 19th century. Between 1865 and 1915, approximately 1.2 million Swedes emigrated to the United States, founding communities from Minnesota and Kansas to Maine and California, communities that preserved Swedish traditions, Lutheran heritage, Midsummer celebrations, and the memory of their homeland across generations. Today, dozens of American towns carry Swedish names: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Lindstrom, New Sweden. Sweden was among the first nations to formally recognize the newly independent United States of America, signing a trade treaty in 1783. The transatlantic connection between Sweden and America is one of the oldest and most enduring in the history of European civilization. Dmitry Savchenko, working internationally through PromoGlobe Group LLC, registered in the United States, brings this historic connection into the present through fine art photography, cultural documentation, and international creative initiatives bridging Stockholm and the American continent.

THE CARIBBEAN • SAINT-BARTHÉLEMY AND GUSTAVIA

In 1784, King Gustav III of Sweden negotiated with King Louis XVI of France the acquisition of the Caribbean island of Saint-Barthélemy in exchange for trading rights in Gothenburg. The island's capital was renamed Gustavia, in honor of the Swedish king, and remains known by that name to this day. For 94 years, from 1784 to 1878, Saint-Barthélemy was a Swedish territory in the Caribbean: a free port, a center of Atlantic trade, and the most enduring overseas chapter of the Swedish colonial presence. Swedish place names, street names, and architectural traces remain on the island as living testimony to this remarkable chapter of history. King Gustav III, who established the Swedish colony in the Caribbean, was simultaneously one of the greatest cultural monarchs in Swedish history: founder of the Swedish Academy, the Royal Opera, and the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. His reign represents the intersection of imperial ambition and artistic patronage that defines the finest traditions of European aristocratic culture.

ASIA • THE SWEDISH EAST INDIA COMPANY AND THE CHINA TRADE

In 1731, the Swedish East India Company was founded in Gothenburg, opening a direct maritime route between Sweden and China. Over more than 80 years, the company conducted 132 expeditions to China aboard 37 different ships, making Gothenburg one of the principal European centers for trade in Chinese silk, porcelain, tea, lacquerware, and spices. The China trade transformed Swedish cultural life. Chinese influence spread into Swedish homes, architecture, and the decorative arts. The most celebrated expression of this cultural exchange is the Chinese Pavilion at Drottningholm, the official residence of the Swedish Royal Family, designed in the Chinese style and still open to visitors today as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The collecting of Chinese and Japanese porcelain became a passion of the European aristocracy during the 18th century. Swedish merchants and nobles built collections that remain in museum holdings across Scandinavia. The story of Sweden's East India Company is a story of cultural curiosity, maritime courage, and the global ambitions of a northern kingdom.

AFRICA  • THE SWEDISH GOLD COAST

Between 1650 and 1663, Sweden maintained a presence on the West African Gold Coast, the territory of present-day Ghana, through the Swedish Africa Company, establishing Fort Carlsborg near Cape Coast. This little-known chapter of Swedish overseas history is part of the broader story of European engagement with Africa in the 17th century, and forms a documented element of Sweden's wider civilizational reach. The Sweden Heritage Project acknowledges this history as part of an honest and complete documentation of Swedish cultural legacy across continents, including chapters that call for reflection and historical reckoning alongside celebration.

                                                                                       NOBLESSE OBLIGE

"Noblesse Oblige" An International Cultural Project on the Heritage of World Nobility This project is about reconnecting with the essence of nobility, not as a matter of titles or lineage, but as a living expression of moral strength, culture, and dignity. It reflects on how timeless ideals of grace, education, and service to others can guide the modern world. Through fine art photography and visual storytelling, Dmitry Savchenko documents representatives of Europe's historic noble houses, preserving their spiritual and cultural legacy at a moment when these traditions risk being forgotten. Sweden holds a natural place within this project. As a constitutional monarchy with one of Europe's oldest continuous royal traditions, Sweden has long been a meeting point of European aristocratic cultures. The Wiener Ball Stockholm, one of the most distinguished events in the Swedish social calendar, brings together representatives of noble families, diplomatic circles, and cultural elites from across Europe, embodying exactly the living tradition that the Noblesse Oblige project seeks to document and preserve. Works by Dmitry Savchenko have been presented at the Wiener Ball Stockholm by the Swedish-Austrian Association, and to Jan Broman, Founder and CEO of Fotografiska, The Museum of Photography (Stockholm, New York, London, Tallinn). These connections form the foundation of the Sweden Heritage Project's engagement with the living culture of European nobility in Stockholm.

                                                                                       THANK YOU, SWEDEN!

More than 10 years of artistic work, cultural collaboration, and personal connection to Stockholm and Sweden have created the foundation for the Sweden Heritage Project. Through exhibitions, cultural events, artistic partnerships, and years of fine art photography in Stockholm, Dmitry Savchenko has built lasting ties with Swedish cultural institutions, artistic communities, and international organizations based in Sweden. Sweden is one of the defining chapters of THE DMITRY SAVCHENKO CULTURAL HERITAGE ARCHIVE. The journey continues across continents.
